Baby Bath Instruction

9 months may seem like an eternity when you or your partner is expecting; there is an endless amount of work and preparation that needs to be completed before baby arrives. Buying baby clothes, preparing the nursery, cleaning, painting and a variety of other exciting (but tiring) tasks must all be complete before you give birth. Once your new baby arrives, you will find that you are consumed and constantly busy caring for your new baby and the rest of your family. Most new (and old) parents realize they will be too busy to take a break and finish last minute tasks, so why do so many parents remain unprepared when their new baby arrives?

While most parents know that items like diapers, clothes and baby toys are needed, they seem to forget that how and where they will bathe their new baby is a question that remains unknown. Having the proper bathing toiletries, creams and baby friendly sponges are absolute necessities when it comes to bathing your baby. If you are not prepared or do not purchase the right items, you may have to improvise which could lead to rashes, infections or irritated skin for your baby. There are a ton of companies selling baby bath products such as soaps, shampoos and creams on the internet, so if you choose to purchase these items online, it is important to buy from reputable companies.

Before you begin to bathe your baby for the very first time, lay out all of the items you will need so that you never leave your baby unattended if you have to go grab an item. Lay out baby's clean clothes for after the bath, and make sure you have a washcloth or sponge, towel, soap and a clean diaper readily available within reach.

Immerse your washcloth or sponge with warm water at a temperature of less than 120 degrees, ideally between 90-100 degrees. Gently wash your baby's face, removing any debris from the eyes, ears and nose. Do not use soap at this point.

After you have cleaned your baby's face, rinse out your cloth and add a small amount of soap to the warm water and gently clean the baby, starting at the head and making your way down to the diaper area. A lot of cleansers are no rinse, so check the label instructions. Remove the baby from the bath and gently rub until dry with a soft cloth.

If you have already given your baby his or hers first bath, and the umbilical cord or circumcision has healed, your baby is ready for a tub bath. Lay out your soap, shampoo, washcloth and clothes for after the bath. Simply fill your baby tub or clean kitchen sink with water at a temperature of 90-100 degrees. Run your hands through the water to remove any hot spots and test the water with your wrist before placing baby in the bath.

Begin bathing by supporting baby's head and shoulders with one hand, while washing with the other. Wet your cloth with plain water and gently clean baby's face. Add a small amount of mild baby soap to the cloth and gently wash baby, beginning with the shoulders down to the diaper area.

Shampoo, when necessary, should be applied in a very small amount. Gently massage the shampoo into the head and scalp and rinse with washcloth. When you are ready to rinse off baby, always use the existing water, never faucet water. You can use a plastic cup to rinse your baby. Place your baby on a clean towel, pat dry, diaper and then clothe.

Properly bathing your baby will ensure both a happy child and happy parents. Always pay attention to your baby's skin, as many babies may have skin allergies or become irritated easily. Always follow manufacturer's directions when using soap, shampoo or creams.

Choose a Wool Rug for Your Nursery

Decorating your nursery is probably the most fun DIY project you will ever undertake. Choosing the colour scheme, the furniture, the bedding, the lights, adding the finishing touches... Now you need to choose a rug.

The choice of nursery rugs out there is huge - pink hearts, flowers, butterflies for girls; racing cars, trucks, football pitches for boys, whatever your taste or budget there are so many designs on offer.

However, it is not that simple - the chances are your child will be spending time on that rug - crawling on it, playing on it, falling onto it, laying on it, maybe even falling asleep on it or trying to eat it lol. So don't rush into buying the design that you like, check the quality.

Many manufactures these days use acrylic or other types of man-made fibre in order to reduce the cost of production. Whilst there is nothing wrong with that for some types of rugs, like your hallway runner or your kitchen rug, you should really try to avoid using anything but natural materials in your child's nursery. Here are just a few facts about wool nursery rugs:

· Babies have sensitive skin - this is the reason we use special detergents and fabric softeners. We also know not to use synthetic clothing for babies as this can lead to severe skin reactions. The same applies to rugs - go for natural fibre rugs that will not irritate the child's skin. Wool has natural anti-bacterial properties and is therefore hypoallergenic.

· A nursery rug should be safe - most acrylic rugs and all wool rugs are fireproof. This, however, is achieved in completely different ways. Wool is a naturally safe retardant material. When it catches light it will not support it and it will not melt. Acrylic rugs are sprayed with a chemical solution to achieve the same results and any chemical can lead to allergies.

· Wool nursery rugs will provide that extra cushioning for your floors. This is extremely useful for when your child is learning to walk. They will also provide noise reduction - think of all those toys thrown or dropped on the floor.

· Nursery rugs need to be easy to maintain - wool fibre has a natural protective layer that prevents wet spills from penetrating the fibre. It also holds dirt and grime high on the pile, making it easy to vacuum.

· And the last, but not the least - wool is sustainable, eco-friendly and biodegradable. It is the healthiest choice for the environment and you and your family.

A wide selection of wool nursery rugs is available at boys rugs and girls rugs sections. Whilst you are choosing a rug for your nursery, have a look at other wool rugs available on the market - you might be tempted to change your living room rug.

Your Kid Is Crying! - Don't Panic! What Should Be Done!

When a baby cries it is only the physiological process. Babies do cry to communicate with one another. As they can not speak and express their feelings in words, they cry to communicate. Babies who are normal cry when they wet, are in pain or when they are hungry. If there are no people around the baby, the baby might cry sometimes. Some babies however do cry fro no reason. Family members do get worried when babies cry even though it is a normal process. As the reasons for crying may be very simple or go on to be very complicated, this cannot be left without any consideration.

Consider the following points when you deal with crying babies.

1. Do not shake babies vigorously when they are crying.
2. Do not use any clothes that are tight.
3. Open windows and let the fan turn when the room is hot.
4. When the nappy is wet, remove and clean with dry towel.
5. Stroke or pat the child gently and let them hear your voice.
6. Make them quiet by feeding them.
7. If the weather is too cold, cover the child in a soft towel.
8. Walk slowly around or rock the baby.
9. Make the baby listen to a doll that makes music.
10. Use a pacifier or let the baby use his or her thumb.
11. Change positions.
12. Walk outdoors along with the baby.
13. Rock gently on a cradle.
14. Let someone else carry the baby.

If the baby does not stop crying after all these, then check for the following signs. The causes for each of these signs are also mentioned.

1. colic - on pressing the abdomen, baby will resist or twist
2. earache - pull the ears, baby may push you off or may become worse
3. fever caused by infection - feel temperature with the back of your hand
4. allergies, eruptive diseases, measles, nappy rash or vesicles - look at skin form head to toe
5. coryza - check nose for discharge
6. head injury or meningitis - check head for stiffness of neck
7. increase in mucus in the wind pipe (bronchiolitis, pneumonia or asthma bronchitis) - put ear to chest to hear rattling sounds
8. crawling of worms, anal erosion, rectal polyp - examine anal orifice
9. erosion or any discharge - examine the genitalia
10. torsion of testes or orchitis - testicles may be tender or swollen in male babies
11. check body movements and see for any sort of rigors, convulsions, cough, vomiting or labored breathing

If you do find any of these signs or any other abnormal signs then consult a doctor.

Various Baby Showers Decorations

There are plenty of baby shower decorations that you can have for your birthday party.

If you have a specific theme for the baby shower, then it's quite simple to make the baby shower decorations.

Winnie the Pooh baby shower theme

Well there are a number of things that you can do for this theme. As baby shower decorations, you can hang a number of cut outs of Winnie the Pooh, Tigger and the other characters. Recreate the 100-acre woods by painting trees and grass on thermocol or cardboard sheets.

These baby shower decorations will serve as a backdrop for the party. Place bottles of honey (or look alike bottles of honey) as centerpieces for your table. They can also be used as deadweights for anchoring the balloons.

The Learning baby showers decorations

The learning baby showers decorations can be made with simple baby books, rulers, colorful posters and of course an apple for the mummy. Take about 6-8 cutesy children books and turn them into centerpieces for the table. They can also be used to hold the balloons down. Blow some balloons that have alphabets on them. Scatter around some baby pacifiers, baby shoes and many more. Cut out the alphabets and string them along. Mimic the classroom style by writing on the placards ..."A for another diaper, B for baby bottle" and so on.

The baby bath baby showers decorations

The central theme of the baby shower is giving the baby a bath. Yellow can be the predominant color for the baby showers decorations. Purchase some rubber ducks, some mother ducks and some baby ducks. Place them in the centre of the table or string them across. In fact they can be turned into instant place cards. Simply print the name of the guests and punch out the paper. Now tie the paper with a string around the ducks neck.

Float the rubber ducks, some balloons, lots of bath tubs and some empty bottles of baby shampoo in galvanized tubs across the part place as part of the baby showers decorations. Let the guest get them selves wet or play some games that utilizes the tubs for the baby showers.

Celestial baby showers decorations

For the mother, her baby means the world and of course the stars and the moon. Why not do up the party with celestial baby showers decorations. Cut out paper moons and stars from construction paper or thick art paper. For added effect, apply some glue on the paper and sprinkle some glitter on the paper. You will have sparking stars and moon. Punch some hole and hang them with thread from the ceiling to give an out of the world baby showers decorations. Hang them at different levels to achieve the desired look.

Sprinkle lots of confetti that's star shaped across the entrance and the tables for the added effect. You can even use sunflowers to brighten up the room. Get some star shaped balloons to complete the look for celestial baby showers decorations.

The First baby showers decorations

If this is going to be the first baby for the mother, then why not plan a theme around it. Why not place placards or banners / signs that show the path to the baby shower. Blow some balloons filled with jelly beans and use diapers or string across the room. Write the alphabets of the baby's name on each diaper with a permanent marker and play some baby games.

How to Get Rid of Fish Smell

The smell of fish is something that lingers in the fishing boat, in the kitchen, the pots and pans, in your car, on your hands, in your clothes and anywhere else that is touched by the fish.

It is not a pleasant smell for most people. I know there are those that say they grew up thinking that fish was supposed to smell like fish, but most find the lingering odor after the fish is long eaten to be unpleasant.

There are many home type remedies that are professed to work. Let me list some here for you to try.

1.) Wash or clean with a solution of vinegar and water.

2.) Wash or clean with a solution of bleach and water.

3.) If it is your refrigerator or freezer, empty it and turn it off. Place a container of boiling hot water with a sliced lemon in it. Leave for about an hour. Then make sure all the smelly ice is out of the freezer area and wipe down the walls and shelves with lemon water. Wipe each item thoroughly before replacing in the refrigerator or freezer.

4.) For the refrigerator or freezer, purchase vanilla-scented fridge deodorizer. It is supposed to kill the bacteria so it will put a stop to the odor for good, not just cover it up. Can be found in a good hardware store or supermarket.

5.) For a container, pots and pans or freezer, cut two potatoes and sprinkle some common table salt on it and place in the container for a couple of hours. Then wash thoroughly.

6.) Wash items with baking soda solution. 1-2 tablespoons of baking soda to 1 quart of water. Keep baking soda in the refrigerator or freezer where you normally store fish.

7.) For pots and pans try brewing some tea for 10-15 minutes. Discard and wash.

8.) For hands, etc. rubs hands with salt and then wash with a lemon scented soap or mild lemon detergent. Liberal use of nail brush at this time will also help.

9.) For clothes, give them a good soak in NappiSan or any other nappy/diaper soaker.

10.) For the fishing boat, body, clothes and children try "Simple Green". Usually can be found at your local supermarket.

11.) "Simple Green" can also be carried along on your fishing trip to clean the smell and residue of insect repellent and sunscreen from your flies or leaders.

12.) This one might take a while but is recommended as having worked. If you have had an ice chest leak in the car try covering with newspaper. This can also be used for the freezer problem. It takes a while for the newspaper to absorb the odor but it seems to do so.

13.) While cooking to reduce the fish smell in the area try heating a little bit of olive oil in a pan and adding cinnamon to it. The fish smell will give way to the sweet cinnamon smell.

14.) If you want to get rid of the fish smell before you cook it, soak the raw fish in a little bit of vinegar and a lot of water. Is should not affect the flavor in any way.

15.) For the microwave try soaking a wet dish towel with a squirt of dish detergent on it and then place it in the center of the microwave and run the microwave on high for a few minutes. The scented stem will clean it. Then let air for a few minutes.

Then there are also some commercial solutions. Here are a few you might want to try:

1.) Zielonka Smell Buster - made in Germany out of special high-grade stainless steel. The Smell Buster is supposed to neutralize odors as soon as it comes into contact with air and water, leaving it fresh and clean. Try an internet search to find it.

2.) Several companies manufacture a liquid concentrate which sells for about $3.00 for 1/4 to 1/2 ounce. A couple drops are put on a piece of cotton and placed in the area to absorb odors, in the cabinet or in a room.

A couple of brand names are: "Odor-Away" by Wrap-on Co., available at hardware and hospital supply stores and "Clean-Air" found at some appliance repair shops.

Hospital supply stores carry Dow Chemical Hospital Disinfectant and Deodorant Spray. Spray into cabinet and quickly shut the door.

Hope some of these solutions will work for you to get rid of the fish smell wherever it is a problem for you.

Nursing Home Alert - Big-Time Alert Of Diapers And Nursing Homes

This is an article that everyone needs to read. The facts are these, that sometimes a nursing home will actually teach and train a new resident or patient to be incontinent. How does this happen? How can something like this happen in this day and age? I will type here how this happens with an example of a forty-five year old female patient who entered a nursing home for short term care for therapy.

Here is the story:

At the hospital, the patient was not incontinent, never had accidents and was able to sleep and live without wearing diapers, just like in the regular world. Then the hospital transferred the patient into a good nursing home so that she could get short-term therapy for an injury to her left leg. She would need the therapy, physical therapy in order to learn to walk again. She now had the use of only one leg.

Immediately when she got to the nursing home, the nurse, who would be caring for her, asked if she wanted to wear a diaper. The patient hesitated answering because she thought that question was odd. After all, she did not need a diaper, nor did she want to wear a diaper. The nurse proceeded to say things like, well, in case you have an accident. The patient was basically, politely talked into wearing a diaper while at the nursing home, even though it was against her better judgment to begin wearing diapers at her age since she did not need diapers.

As in all nursing homes and hospitals, when patients are wearing diapers, they are told to go in their diapers. After all, that is what a diaper is for, correct? So this patient, at times, would just go in the diapers, using herself to have a bowel movement, since she was wearing the diaper. What it amounted to was that it was easier to dump in the diaper than it was to get a nurse to come to help her out of bed, then help her to the bathroom. The patient became increasingly afraid of falling and was made o think that diaper would stop falls and the diaper would also stop the patient from calling the nurse to help her to the bathroom. After all, make the nurse happy because she is the one who will be around most, for emergencies and all.

But from the beginning with this particular nurse who talked the patient into wearing a diaper, the patient and probably many other patients were put in diapers for the convenience of the nursing home, not for the convenience of patients. The patient did in her diaper one day and the nurse became a little upset about what happened, and then the nurse convinced the patient that she had an accident. When indeed, the patient had no accident, but instead the patient dumped in the diaper BECAUSE she was wearing a diaper and because when the patients rang for help, they had to wait and wait for someone to come and help them. Family members witnessed how long it took a nurse to come there one day, just to change the diaper. So the nursing home gave so many mixed messages to the patients that the patients eventually became confused as to why the heck they were in diapers to begin with.

So, many times, nursing home patients are automatically put in diapers for convenience. The homes make the patients lose their dignity -- they do not need diapers yet they are emotionally forced to wear diapers. This is a large, important issue that city officials need to look into. And when looking into it they need to realize that patients are reluctant to disagree with the nurses that give them daily care. So if a nurse even hints that a patient should wear diapers, guess what? That patient will be wearing diapers before you know it.

First, the diaper was put on for the sole convenience of the nursing home, and the patients were talked into wearing diapers IN CASE THEY HAVE AN accident. So patients complied by saying, okay, put me in a diaper. But what some patients did not realize was that by wearing diapers, that gave the staff more permission to not come quickly when the bell is rung because the staff knows the patient in in a diaper and they will not have to clean sheets if there is an accident. In other words, accidents are approved of, rather than having a patient in no diaper and rather than having a patient need to be escorted back and forth to the bathroom which TAKES more time for nurses to do, they encourage the patients to wear diapers.

By wearing diapers, ambulatory patients who just need assistance going to the bathroom, are encouraged to be LESS independent. They are now encouraged to stay in bed more simply because they are wearing diapers. The less bathroom trips , the more bed time, and the less bathroom trips, the less walking a patient does. After a week or so, the patients wonder why they are not as strong as they were when they were in the hospitals and no one makes the connection that the diaper is actually making them weaker and weaker because they are out of bed that many times LESS. As each day in the diaper passes, the patient becomes less independent and more dependent on staff to change diapers.

This whole procedure is wrong. There are SOME patients that need diapers due to medical reasons , but for the most part, many patients are simply talked into wearing diapers for convenience. It is insinuated that if they are wearing a diaper they will not have sheets accidents and it is insinuated and implied that the staff will be happier with the patient if the patient is wearing a diaper. Happy staff equals happy patient, correct? Incorrect. Just because the staff is happy that they have so many less trips to the bathroom, that does not mean the patients are happier. The patients are taught and trained to be incontinent and they are taught and trained to be happy that they are wearing diapers JUST IN CASE.

What happened to your relatives in the nursing homes? Were they put in diapers for convenience? Are they still wearing diapers? Do they seem less independent now that they are wearing diapers?

I am not speaking about regular patients who NEED, who medically need to be in diapers because they are incontinent, I am speaking of patients who have not been and who are not incontinent, and these patients are politely convinced, persuaded by staff to be in diapers. And all the while the staff is politely insisting they wear diapers JUST IN CASE, the nurse says, if you want to , it is your choice. It is your choice if you want a diaper. She states that to the patient and keeps stating IN CASE you have an accident. Basically , she is instilling the idea in a patient that she will have an accident and it is better for the patient to have a diaper. The patient agrees just to please a staff member.

Yet the moment a patient agrees to please these staff members, that is the moment that the patient becomes less independent. And is not the purpose of rehab to have the patient MORE independent? So the nursing home is giving the patient a mixed message. The first message is that you are there for short-term therapy, and yet, you need to wear a diaper JUST IN CASE.

What about your relatives? If you relative is there for short-term therapy and your relative is NOT in medical need of diapers, then should your relative be in diapers? Probably not. IF there is no medical need for the diaper, why is the patient wearing a diaper? Other reasons, yes, Virginia, the staff wants patients in diapers to prevent falls.

Why are there more falls with patients who do not wear diapers? There are more falls because when the bell rings, when a patient rings a bell for a nurse to come to aid someone to accompany someone to the restroom, the patient has to wait and wait and wait, and so frustratingly, some patients, decide to get up on their own and walk to the restroom instead of waiting so long for a nurse to come. So patients learn that they will wait and wait and wait, so they better have a diaper on. That is the implied message and that is the reality of the situation.

Patients wait. Those patients that are wearing diapers can eventually dump in the diaper rather than have wet or soaked sheets or poop in sheets. So patients are taught, systematically taught that they need diapers even though it is their choice, it is their decision; these places make it so that the patient really has no choice in the matter. What their real choices are is these:

  1. They can wear wait and wait and wait and wait when they need to have a bowel movement or urination. And wait and wait and then have an accident on the sheets, on their clothing, all over them OR

  2. They can wait and wait and wait and wait after they ring the bell and then they can try to get to the restroom on their own since they are waiting so long, and then risk a fall or actually fall OR

  3. They can opt to wear a diaper and if they are waiting too long, they can just dump in the diaper.

If you were a patient and you knew you were there temporarily which choice would you take? Would you risk falling when you might be in there for the reason that you need help walking? Or would you risk pooping or urinating all over your clothes or sheets and then having the nurse extremely upset with you? OR would you say, okay I will have a diaper on JUST IN CASE? This is what patients and staff do. The staff , SOME staff, train the patients to become incontinent just for convenience of staff because there is no time for them to help patients to the bathroom. Remember with some patients, the staff might have to do some lifting, and with other patients it might take a long time to walk a patient to the rest room and the staff does NOT have the time. These nursing facilities who follow these policies of telling patients to wear diapers JUST IN CASE are doing harm to patients. They are teaching patients to become less independent, while the main goal for most short-term therapy patients is to become MORE independent not less independent.

If you ever are a patient that has this situation, TELL them you do not want to wear a diaper. And then document how long it takes for the staff to come to your aid after you ring the help bell for assistance to go to the bathroom. Document each time so that you are not made to wait and wait and wait and wait and then mess your sheets. When they let you wait and wait, they are merely training you to wear diapers and training you to become like a baby and become more dependent on them to change your diaper.

Here is advice for patients who are able to go to the restroom by themselves, just tell the staff that you do not medically need diapers and that when they come to your aid when they should come to your aid, there will be no accidents. AND best of all , if there is an accident, the staff will handle that and not let you wait and wait and wait and wait while you lay in your accident.

The ONLY time that patients should be in diapers for convenience is when patients are traveling outdoors and or making short or long trips by ambulance, ambulette or access-a-ride. In these cases, it makes sense for patients to use diapers. The reason? When you are outdoors the restrooms are usually so far away and some are not wheelchair accessible. And you just never know if there will be a bathroom anywhere. So, it is important to use diapers only for traveling because if you are outside and have an accident on your clothing, you will be outdoors in wet clothing, and especially in winter, you are putting yourself at risk for illness by staying in wet, or soiled clothing for the length of your trip outdoors. However, once indoors at the nursing home facility, and once indoors at your residence, if you do not medically need diapers, you should not be wearing diapers at all.

Just because a human has an accident because they were waiting too long for help, that is not a reason why people need to wear diapers inside of nursing homes. Lets help make things better not worse for our relatives and for patients inside of these nursing homes.

Each and every LESS bathroom trip makes your patient less independent and makes them more dependent on you, on staff and when they get home they will be in a condition worse than they were when they arrived at the nursing home for healing.

What are your thoughts on this. I would like to hear from patients who were convinced by staff to wear diapers when they did not medically need to wear diapers. Did staff do this to you too? Please leave a comment or send a confidential email . Your connection is important. With unity, we can change the system. All patients, residents and families need to unite in getting better and quicker service inside of nursing homes so that people are not made to wear diapers when they do not medically need to wear diapers.

Yes, of course, if your medical condition is that you medically need to wear diapers then you should. No one is telling you to go against doctor's orders. All I am saying is that you should NOT be in diapers for the sole convenience of the staff. And hundreds if not thousands of patients are put in diapers on a daily basis for the sole convenience of the staff.

Disclaimer: This article is written by a writer, observer, researcher, and author. I am not advocating walking around in the nursing home if you need help. I am advocating that patients do not wear diapers if they do not medically need to wear diapers. I am advocating that patients not be talked into wearing diapers for the sole convenience of the staff or in their own words, JUST IN CASE! No patient needs to wear a diaper JUST IN CASE when that patient never was and is not incontinent. It is ridiculous to wear a diaper JUST IN CASE!

It is in wearing diapers JUST IN CASE that makes patients less independent and more dependent and it basically teaches and trains patients to poop in their pants and to urinate in their pants when they do not medically need to do that. Let us give these patients back their dignity, and instead, let us run to help them , run to escort them to the restroom instead of letting them wait and wait and wait and wait. That makes more sense. Any patients who medically need to wear diapers should wear diapers. Any patients who have doctors orders to wear diapers for MEDICAL reasons, should wear diapers. That is all that I am saying. Please respond with your comments.

Did you hear about the woman who was found naturally-glued to her boyfriend's toilet. They claim that she had been there for more than two years and that her skin grew around the toilet bowl making her permanently attached to the bowl. Why in the world did this woman sit there for two years? Here is a suggestion. Perhaps she had previously been in a nursing home. In some nursing homes, the practice is to let them sit on the bowl forever practically. Patients wait as time passes by, until someone has time to help them back to their beds. And patients know this. That is why so many residents and patients are literally afraid to enter into nursing homes and physical rehabilitation and care centers. They are afraid of losing their dignity. They know that they will be asked to either sit on the bowl forever without help of getting up OR they will lose their dignity by having to wear diapers when they do not medically have to wear diapers.

Here is the news story, yes NEWS story of the toilet-bowl caper . This is probably what bad nursing homes and bad rehabilitation and care centers are doing to our human beings. They are making people so afraid to go to nursing homes , that people say they would rather die than go to a nursing home, and some would sit at their homes glued to toilet bowls because of the fear that the nursing homes have put into them.

I need your input here. I need to hear from you. And you need to share your experience so that everyone else knows what is really happening inside of those nursing homes. The goals of staff , the personal nursing staff that ushers people to bathrooms are conflicting goals with having patients become more independent.

Please, I beg you to respond and let us hear your thoughts on this matter. Your input is greatly appreciated.

I updated this article on May 20, 2008.

Melinda Thomas is an author who has read and studied psychology for many years. And has attended courses in one of the largest cities in America. Melinda would like to hear from you on this and other topics. Will you please take just a few minutes to respond if you can relate to this article? Are you a staff member who has convinced a patient to wear diapers even though the patient does not need diapers? I need all family members and patients to respond. Thank you.

How to Treat Adult Diaper Rash

Adult diaper rash is a common concern for incontinence sufferers. Typically, adult diaper rashes are similar in cause and symptoms to children's diaper rashes. It is most often caused by skin irritations such as prolonged exposure to urine or fecal matter. Good hygiene is a key to preventing this uncomfortable and irritating rash.

In all cases, preventing diaper rash is best. We have all heard the adage "prevention is worth a pound of cure"; and this holds true when discussing adult diaper rash as well. Keeping the diaper area clean and dry with frequent changing can prevent most cases of adult diaper rash. Some people use a lubricating cream daily to prevent further chaffing from the diapers.

It is also a good idea to find a proper-fitting diaper, whether you choose the disposable or cloth diaper options. You should find a diaper that fits snuggly and comfortably without being too tight. You should additionally be sure to change the diaper frequently when wet to avoid prolonged exposure to acidic urine.

One downfall of using cloth diapers is that you must additionally use a plastic pant cover to prevent leaking. These plastic pants can increase the temperature within the diaper area and transform it into a breeding ground for bacteria and other germs. This is one reason that many people choose to use disposable diaper to prevent adult diaper rash. Disposable diapers are much more absorptive than cloth diapers, which usually results in less moisture being trapped on the skin.

It is also a wise idea to let the diaper area completely dry after a diaper has been soaked. You can additionally clean the area with a soft cloth and a very mild soap. Having a good hygiene regime and acting swiftly in your changing habits are the best ways to prevent adult diaper rash. If you should try these methods and still have problems with rashes, you can buy over-the-counter remedies in the form of creams. Six Easy Baby Tips to Keep Your Baby Happy

Here are 6 easy baby tips and techniques that you may find helpful in settling and keeping your baby happy.

1. Face washer

Having a bath can be scary for some babies especially in the first 6 weeks. They may feel more secure and warmer if you place a wet and warm face washer over their tummy or back while in the bath. In addition, if they can grab hold of a toy or the washer it may make them feel more secure.

2. The heat pack

On a cold night, one great way to put babies to sleep is with a heat pack. Twenty or so minutes before bed, heat up the hot water bottle or heat pack and place it in the bassinet or crib. When it is time to put babies to bed, remove it and it will be nice and warm for a good night's sleep. You can buy lavender scented heat packs that are also useful for this, but make sure your baby isn't allergic too it or the smell is not to strong.

Note - The lavender heat pack might help you get some sleep as well!

3. Bath before feed, feed before bath, which one?

We have tried both ways of giving a bath before feeding and also bathing after a feed. Which one is better? It all depends on babies. If baby is tired, perhaps bath them first to wake them up and then feed them. If they fall to sleep while their feeding you can easily put them to bed.

The benefits of bathing after the feed (allow 15 minutes or so for food to settle) is if they make a mess after their feed, you can clean them up before them going to sleep. You can delay their bed time if they are not sleepy and the warm bath may help to settle and relax them. They may tend to enjoy their bath more on a fully tummy rather than crying as they are hungry.

This one is a matter of trial and error as to what babies likes and what suits you.

4. Change diapers frequently

Seems fairly obvious, however, too long in the one diaper can contribute to nappy rash. Whilst you may use a fair few diapers, especially in the first few months, you want your baby to be comfortable and happy.

5. Sheets in the fridge

On a very hot restless night try this one. Put the baby's sheets in a bag and place them in the fridge for a very short time. Remember, that babies do not have as much muscle and body fat to keep them warm like us, so do not make them too cold and think safety and common sense for this one. This one might just be cool enough to work.

6. Cradle cap

Some babies can get cradle cap, which is a crusty flake on their head, it is harmless and is actually a form of dandruff. Use some baby oil or moisturizer and leave for a day then gently wash.

Pants For Bedwetting - Good Idea Or Huge Mistake?

If you're a parent who is struggling with a bedwetting child, you may be considering special pants for bedwetting as a possible solution. In a nutshell, these pants are leak-resistant and keep your child's bed dry in the event that there's an accident. While many people are advocates of bedwetting pants (especially those who sell them!), I'm not. In this brief article, I'll be reveal why I'm not a fan of using special pants for bedwetting and what you should be using instead.

First of all, if you're looking for a long-term solution to your boy or girl's bedwetting problem, buying them pants for bedwetting isn't the best idea. Sure, these pants will keep the sheets dry, but they do nothing to address the underlying cause of them wetting the bed at night. In my opinion, you should instead be focused on how to fix the overall problem instead of looking to just address the outcome (wet sheets).

Having said that, there is a time and a place for things like this that will keep mattresses from being ruined. However, I would much rather see you use something like a mattress cover vs. pants for bedwetting. The reason for that is bedwetting pants can lead to skin problems over time as the child is basically sleeping in their urine all night long. It's my opinion that a mattress protector is a much better idea in this regard.

So what can you do to stop bedwetting? While that's beyond the scope of this short article, there are many effective techniques that you can implement with your child to stop bed wetting for good. Keep in mind -- there's a lot to learn on this topic, and not every solution works for each child.

Hopefully this short article has given you some insights into why pants for bedwetting may not be the best idea for your child. While they can help, I personally feel that there are much better alternatives out there.
